PostHeaderIcon How do I paint a basement floor that is concrete, but with cracks in places?

I live in an old home with a dirty dingy basement with cracks in the floor, I want to freshen it up by painting the floor, I need some tips for sealer and paint to use. As well, any ideas that may be useful for this type of project.

If you put a skim coat or even tile over it , there is a good possibility that crack will transfer thur those products. The cement must be very clean and dry to paint, Using a paintable caulk that will fill the cracks and take the movement is your best bet. You ll still see them most likely though. If no moisture problems on floor laminate is the cheapest ( next to paint or a stain) that you can do it yourself. GL

PostHeaderIcon should i fill the space between my asphalt driveway and the concrete garage floor?

There is a little space between the concrete slab of my garage and concrete slab of my driveway. i am resealing my driveway. should i put asphalt crack sealer in there so no insects, weeds, etc get in there? should i just leave it be?
my drive way slopes down away from my house
yes it is an expansion joint..forgot to put that it

I would not advise filling it in–Thats why it is there – to allow both separate slabs to expand & contract. If you fill it in with something that wont expand – this could cause either or both to crack when they expand.

PostHeaderIcon Concrete driveway sealer recommendations?

Specific brands you have experience with.

Preferably those that don't darken or gloss the driveway. Also, would like a penetrating sealer as opposed to a surface coating.

It's a concrete driveway and NOT an asphalt driveway (so no black coating or tar products). I'd like to seal it while keeping its natural gray poured concrete look.

The driveway is 3 years old and has never been sealed. It's not cracked or scaling. It's subject to high heat (100 degrees in summer), extreme cold (-20 in winter), as well as rain, snow, and ice.

Hi Chad,
We use a product called "Concrete Sealer X-1. It's not cheap but it's really good. We have used it in hundreds of locations with excellent results over the years. Here is the website.

PostHeaderIcon What is the best performing brand of garage floor and driveway sealer and where can I purchase them?

I just bought a brand new home and my driveway is standard black-top asphault. My garage is a poured concrete slab. I would like to seal them both against the elements and daily wear-and-tear. What is the best product for each respective project? I live in the midwest where winters can be particularly harsh. Finally, I would like a garage floor sealer that doesn’t make the surface slippery when it is wet. Thanks!

For the garage, use only a two part epoxy sealer. While the epoxy is still wet, sprinkle lightly with masonry sand. There are products that do the same thing, but at much more expense. For the driveway, a standard asphault sealer will suffice. Both can be found at Lowes, Home Depot, or a local paint store.
Good Luck

PostHeaderIcon Best way to apply sealer to stained concrete?

We are using QC Solvent Sealer on stained concrete. We normally use a roller but it was leaving lines. Directions said it could be sprayed on but we tried two different sprayers and neither worked right (came out in one heavy stream with all settings).

Any other suggestions?

I used a large sponge that is used for cleaning grout on tiles. It holds the solution well and spreads it evenly. Get on your hands and knees and pour just a little out at a time and spread it with the sponge.
