Why does my building with concrete walls smell like paint?
I have a 2 year old one room building with concrete walls that is built into a hill and I think moisture is coming through the cement and reacting with the interior walls. I had a mold specialist come and check for moisture but he did not find a ton of it, but the room still smells like some chemical or paint or something and is virtually uninhabitable. The contractor says he put a sealer on the concrete and there is an air pocket. Does the air pocket need to be ventilated so the moisture can evaporate? There is a lot of irrigation on the hillside the building is built into and a shower on one side, and a fountain on the other. I have aired this room out over much time, but the smell never goes away and I am afraid the walls are getting moisture buildup from within…
In order to solve your problem you need to consider all sources, moisture would not create a wet paint smell.
You have a chemical reaction or off gassing of some kind going on. Consult the builder to find out what kind of cement or epoxy or other materials were used to join the concrete if its blocks and consult your contractor, if the sealer is dry maybe you can paint over it with a low voc latex paint, if he thinks its OK
Concrete driveway sealer recommendations?
Specific brands please. Preferably those that don't darken or gloss the driveway.
I have found that 'Black Knight' 'Landing Strip' grade driveway sealer does the best job, and weathers the best. You can get it at Home DEpot, Lowe's, Rona, or any good home renovation supply store.
Quickrete Epoxy Concrete Sealer?
I have a couple of gallons of the clear epoxy sealer made by quickrete. I was wondering if I could skip the step of applying the color epoxy and just put down the clear epoxy for a glossy natural concrete finish. I was thinking about just applying the etcher and just let it dry and lay down the clear.
It is on a brand new house that is about to close on so there is no need to get any oils up or anything. It is also in a double closed garage.
Will the clear epoxy set up right without the color basecoat?
You can just apply the sealer coat to seal the concrete. But you should apply the etcher first and let it dry. There is no reason you would have to use the color coat . The sealer wil work fine without the color.
What is a good way to make a concrete floor look nice? (Asbestos)?
I work at a marina. The floor is covered in green asbestos tiles. Some tiles have gotten pulled up over the years and the floor shows the concrete. It is pretty messy looking and my boss is looking for a way to make the floor look nice. Here's what weve been considering.
*Paint the places where the concrete is showing green. So the floor at least is the same color (I dont really like this idea)
*Buy something like sealer that people apply to their garage floors. This will make the floor tough, clean, and uniform.
The floor is asbestos as mentioned earlier therefore pulling the tile isn't an option. Any ideas?
Thanks

Lay 12` x12` ceramic tile over it.Then seal it.
Blacktop Sealer over Concrete?
Has onlyone ever put blacktop sealer over concrete? And what were the results. I have a very long concrete drive that has very large and old Oak trees on either side that have caused some cracking. The cost to replace drive is about 30K… and it will oly crack again due to the tree roots. It is old about 20 years and has stains and oil drops.. I was thinking about top sealing it with blacktop sealer. Any input appeciated
blacktop is for asphalt , they do make concrete resurface/patch mix.As far as your stains pressure wash them off , oil use cat litter to absorb it and pressure wash.
