Does anyone know a way to waterproof a concrete planter to keep it from losing water?
I need to paint the inside with something to keep the water from leaching out, but I don’t want it to kill what I am going to plant. I thought about using Thompson’s water sealer or something like that but I was told that it would cause a fungus in my plants. Any ideas? Please and thank you!
The easiest and least expensive way to waterproof your concrete planter is to use a heavy trash bag–the contractor gauge lawn/leaf bags. Place it in your container, cut it to size, allow for drainage by poking holes in the bottom or you’ll drown your plants, fill it with your potting mix and plant.
Go to Home Depot and they will have a waterproofing material you can paint on.
Good luck!

They are supposed to lose water. That’s the purpose. If they didn’t, they’d fill up and drown your plants.

How about using a plastic liner? If you have a standard shaped planter, you can probably find a thin plastic liner at a nursery that’s made just for what you need. They have them in green or clay colored like most planters, to match. You may also consider making your own liner using thick plastic and duct tape from a hardware store. I’d try to pick up a liner at a nursery first, they may even have bacteria-resistant ones. Good luck!

you can lead a horticulture but you can’t make her think
dont do that
water needs to leak out of the planter
if you seal off the planter then the roots will rot in the flowers
